HALF DAY TOURS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often do the tours run?
Tours run on demand, every day of the year except Christmas Day. A minimum
number of 9 participants are required for tours.
All tours are subject to late cancellations owing to rough sea conditions
or lack of tour numbers.
How long does the boat trip last?
Boat time varies from one hour on the way out to a half-hour on the way
home. However, extra sea time can be expected during the combined whale
watch tours.
How agile do I have to be?
If you can climb a 2-metre ladder from the boat to the shore, and a steep
hill to the light station you will be agile enough to join the tour. Please
check when booking if mobility is an issue.
Any special clothing needed?
During winter bring along a warm spray jacket and a beanie. For summer,
a light spray jacket, hat and sunscreen are suggested. Sensible shoes are
recommended footwear for both tours summer and winter.
How many seals will
I see?
Between August and December you may see more than 1,000 Australian Fur
Seals and more than 100 New Zealand Fur Seals. At other times the numbers
will range upwards of 20 animals. Check when booking for current numbers.
How
many Little Penguins will I see?
Little Penguin viewing is only available on the evening tour. Before,
during and after the moulting season in February/ March through to May,
few penguins land at all. Outside of this time between 6 and 50 penguins
will land at the viewing area and walk within a few metres of the tour.
Updates on penguin numbers are provided at booking outlets.
You can take as many photos of the penguins as you wish provided no flashes
or video lights are used. So make sure you bring your high speed lenses
and film.
Will I see any whales?
Between September and November there is a high chance that the tour will
see whales. The vessel crews usually know if there are any about and will
certainly do their best to find them.
What about the sea and weather?
All tours conducted are subject to sea and weather conditions. The Master
of the tour vessel will make the decision on whether or not to proceed
with the tour and will notify the ticket sales outlet of this decision
as soon as is possible.
Participants should note that despite the most reliable and up-to-date
weather forecast the weather and sea conditions can, and do, change rapidly,
even after a tour has departed. The decision to shorten or cancel any tour
is always made to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants.
Do
I get my money back if the tour is cancelled at any point?
1. If a tour
departs and does not reach the Island due to deteriorating weather or seas,
a full refund will be made.
2. If the tour reaches the Island and is then forced to return to Narooma
due to weather or sea conditions, 50% of the ticket fee will be refunded.
3. If a tour is landed on the Island, no refund will be made regardless
of the time spent on the Island.
The tour boat crews will do their very best to ensure you get to the Island
and enjoy your tour. However, your safety and comfort is their highest
priority.
